UTTAM SINHA:
The opposition party TIPRA Motha is getting ready to join the BJP-led Government. This decision comes shortly after the historic Tipra Accord was signed in New Delhi last Saturday. Animesh Debbarma, the leader of the opposition, and Brishaketu Debbarma, a TIPRA Motha MLA, will be sworn in as ministers today, bringing the total number of ministers in the Manik Saha cabinet to 11.
With TIPRA Motha joining the government, the coalition's strength will increase to 46, as TIPRA Motha holds 13 seats in the Assembly.
The Tipra Accord has made it possible for TIPRA Motha to join the BJP-led government in the state.
This development is a significant boost for the BJP just before the Lok Sabha polls. There are also rumors that TIPRA Motha might field a candidate for the Tripura East seat, possibly Pragya Debbarma, the sister of TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place today, March 7th, at 9:30 a.m. at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Agartala.
Animesh Debbarma, the current leader of the opposition, previously served as the deputy CEM of the TTAADC. He has been actively advocating for the indigenous people of the state and addressing critical issues. Animesh Debbarma joined TIPRA Motha before the TTAADC election and has since risen in the ranks of the party. He has been elected as an MLA twice, first in 2003.
